The Winnipeg Jets are a professional ice hockey team that play in the Central Division of the Western Conference in the National Hockey League. The Jets have played their entire existence in Manitoba, Canada – beginning as an arena league franchise before establishing themselves as one of the NHL’s original six teams via an expansion draft in Atlanta (then St. Louis) on June 22, 1967 with the intent to relocate to Minnesota after unsuccessful negotiations with owner Métis leader Stanley Cup President Clarence Campbell for a suitable arena for franchise games.
