The United States Army (USA) is the land warfare and service branch of the United States Armed Forces, responsible for the security and defense of the United States. The army’s ten primary missions include preparing for war, defending the country from external aggression, dominating land operations in support of national policy, providing health care for soldier and family well being, defending U.S. territory, conducting state-building/nation-building overseas amongst other things.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, often referred to simply “JBLM”, is a United States Army installation located on the Washington State side of Lake Clark, just east of the town of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). JBLM is one of only two U.S. installations located in the state of Washington, along with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. JBLM serves as mobilization center for more than 70,000 active duty personnel assigned to six different divisions within U.S. Army Pacific and U.S. Army Europe. It is also home to a battalion from the 2nd Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC), 7th Combat Aviation Brigade (Airborn), and a unit from the U.S. Army Reserve Command’s 33rd Area Support Group (ASG) stationed at Fort Lewis Washington.

Fort Sill

Fort Sill is a United States military installation, located 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Lawton and 4 miles (6 km) east of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Established in 1869 as an active cavalry post in the Indian Territory, Fort Sill has served as an Army installation since its founding. As of 2009, Fort Sill transitioned from the U.S. Army’s only mounted to the only dismounted combat arm training facility within the United States Department of Defense in June 2009 whenactivation was authorized for the 108th Cavalry Regiment (Mechanized). The 2nd Battalion, 121st Armor Regiment and 3rd Battalion, 57th Field Artillery Regiment are subordinate units of the fort, as well as Company C from Oklahoma National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 115th Aviation Regiment.

Fort Bliss

Fort Bliss, previously known as the El Paso Cantonment, is situated in El Paso County, Texas. Fort Bliss is the home of several military units including the 1st Armored Division & 82nd Airborne Division (not to mention numerous other units). There are five main missions entailed in this camp. These are:

  1. Training for army recruits (basic training)
  2. The facility where medical training takes place.
  3. Home of a division headquarters and operation center from which paratroopers parachute into enemy territory.
  4. A temporary housing area for reassignment purposes.
  5. A command headquarters.

Fort Stewart

Fort Stewart is a United States Army installation located in the states of Georgia and South Carolina. The installation dates to 1917, when it was established by the Department of Army as Camp Stewart. During World War I, most of the camp’s facilities were leased from the state of South Carolina, with nearby live fire ranges used for training. In 1919, before being decommissioned during peacetime, the post had two brigades assigned there; by 1921, these where consolidated into one artillery brigade and one infantry brigade. The post was again active during World War II, under the Pacific theater command. Fort Stewart has hosted units from the United States Marine Corps Reserve and the United States Army Reserve on several occasions to conduct training exercises at the installation or engage in joint deployments with deployed rotational forces.

Camp Pendleton

Camp Pendleton, originally named Camp Lejeune, is a United States military installation located adjacent to the city of Oceanside in San Diego County, California. It was established in 1942, two years after the US entry into World War II. The base is home to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Southern Watch (or Operation Active Endeavor) maritime surveillance mission and Marine Air-Ground Task Force Training occurring at Camp Pendleton’s East Coast Range Complex; as well as the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, a major support base that provides support services for both ranges.

Fort Riley

Fort Riley has always been the headquarters for the United States Armys maneuver centers, which include various battle groups and brigades overseas and within the continental United States. During its early history, Fort Riley’s primary mission was to train cavalry units as they were sent out to fight Indians in the west.

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam is a major U.S. Navy installation in Hawaii. It was the largest United States military facility built in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Located on Oahu’s north shore, Pearl Harbor Hickam is home to more than 37,000 active duty personnel, 55 warfighting commands and over 700 civilian employees who work for various military services and agencies. JBPH is a critical component of U.S. Pacific Command’s capacity to defend the region, meet contingencies and deter potential adversaries who threaten peace and stability throughout the Western Pacific.

White Sands Missile Range

White Sands Missile Range is a United States Army and U.S. Air Force installation located in the White Sands Missile Range and Fort Bliss Military Reservation, in eastern New Mexico approximately 100 miles (160 km) east-northeast of El Paso, Texas. It has been closed since 2015. The range covers approximately 1,000 square miles (2,600 km2) of arid terrain with sand dunes up to 200 feet (60 m) high, which have limited vegetation cover and available water resources.
