Army Mission

The mission of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command is to provide the force with the highest level of joint capabilities and lethality by operating in all domains, at home and abroad, with a focus on combat support and combat service support to enable global reach, power projection and flexible response operations in order to win wars against a more capable and lethal threat.

Provide prompt and sustained land combat.

The U.S. Army’s primary mission is to provide prompt and sustained land combat forces to defend the United States, its interests, and its allies. The army’s capabilities for combat are provided by the Land component (organic) of the U.S. Army, which is composed of all three branches: The US Army (includes US Army Reserve and US Army National Guard), The US Army Air National Guard, and The US Air Force Artillery Corps.

Be prepared to win our Nation’s wars.

The United States Army has one mission: to fight and win our Nation’s wars. As a Soldier, you will be engaged in many missions throughout your career. But a primary mission is to provide an organized and trained force that can defend the homeland. As part of this mission, Soldiers must be prepared to deploy anywhere in the world at any time with the ability to conduct combat operations against an enemy threat.

Serve as a hedge against global instability.

The United States’ military presence in Europe and Asia is intended to provide a stable, growing, and enduring security environment in these regions. It serves as a hedge against global instability – countering potential threats from terrorist groups and other adversaries who may interfere with U.S. interests, destabilize governments or otherwise conduct military operations against the United States or its allies or partners. Current strategy and defense plans rely on maintaining the ability to deploy U.S. forces globally at times of crisis and conflict.

Support unified action overseas.

Universal support is what the United States Army teaches Soldiers to provide. Support ranges from medical aid and supplies to food, clothing, and shelter. This is especially relevant when serving overseas because it’s not always possible for an individual to bring everything needed into a foreign country on their own. To accomplish the goal of providing unified action that effectively supports the needs of Soldiers locally, globally and with continuity, U.S. Army Service Component commands at all levels must focus on their ability to provide support in order to engage the full range of capabilities available within their area of responsibility.

Remain ready to conduct other operations.

The former commander of the Army’s 1st Brigade Combat Team and the 75th Ranger Regiment, which was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia, said all soldiers have to be ready to conduct other missions on short notice. Troops have to be trained to operate under austere conditions and at times when they’re not being used as scheduled.

The US Army has 5 core missions

The United States Army is an active and forward-deployed force composed of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. The Army has five core missions: to fight and win our Nation’s wars; to fight and win the battles of the future on land, at sea or in the air; to deter war through strength of arms; to provide soldiers with combat leadership skills that transform them into the bold warriors they are meant to be; to strengthen their moral fiber through physical fitness training that strengthens their bodies enough so that military service can overcome any obstacle life presents.
